Morning Sun Trailhead

Oil on Canvas
“Morning Sun Trailhead” is a 24 x 36 x 2 inch oil painting on stretched canvas, based on a hike I took in summer 2025 in Sausalito, California. I especially admired how the light shone through the trees, how the fog rolled up the hills, and how the air was thick with the smell of eucalyptus. As I got closer to the top of the trailhead, the clouds began to clear and I took this picture while resting. I wanted to evoke in the viewer the significance of presence that can only be felt in the forests of California. Much like my hike, creating this painting was also a practice of mindfulness, as it required observation on what hues contrasted well together, patience with waiting for layers to dry, and focus on tiny details like the leaves, all in an effort to bring this painting more to life.
